Currently registered players will receive a pre-printed form to update and send in. New players can obtain a registration form in the Recreation Department lobby (61 Center Street) or download one by clicking above. When are registrations due? For travel teams, (age 8 and up) to play in the Fall, registrations are due June 1st. For travel teams, to play in the Spring, registrations are due November 1st. U6 and U8 registrations are due two weeks prior to the start of the program. To be considered on-time, registrations must be in the post office box or coach's hand as of the due date. Late fee applies after the due date, and players will be wait-listed for travel team rosters. Late rgistrants for U6 and U8 may not be able to join the program the first week. What equipment is required? For all ages, shin-guards are required, and a water bottle should always be brought. Cleats are not requ?red for U6 and U8, but are recommended for older children. Cleats may NOT be baseball or football cleats. All children in the travel program should have their own ball and bring it to practice. The ball is Size 4 for U9 through U12, and Size 5 for U14 and older. BYSA registration fee includes one complete travel uniform per year, not per season, for each player. What if I cannot afford the registration fee or equipment? Let BYSA know by writing to PO Box 213 or by e-mail and we will consider scholarships for your family. What is your refund policy? Written request is required: print, complete, and return the Player Withdrawl Request form. Refunds will be provided, minus any expenses incurred or late fees, if request is received by a date three weeks before the start of the season or program. Requests received after a date three weeks before the start of the season or program will be subject to approval of the Board of Directors. Why do I have to register so early for the following season? We are required to submit team rosters to our league well in advance of the start of the season, so they have time to set up the divisions and the game schedules. When we receive player registrations, we need time to determine the number of teams in each age group, select the teams, and prepare the rosters for the league. Will my child be placed on a team? The policy of BYSA is that every child who registers on time will be placed on a team. Will my child get on the team that we want? We absolutely do not make team placements based on friendships, car-pools, or any other reason including "but my child has always been on that team". Teams are primarily selected on ability level and may change from season to season. Who can I contact if I have a question or problem? If the problem is with your child's team, please address it directly with the coach at an appropriate time and place. For any other problems or if the coach was not able to help you, please leave a message on the soccer line (781) 229-5733 and your child's Age Coordinator will be asked to contact you. Make sure your message includes any information we need to proceed. At least once a year, parents receive a coach evaluation form which can be returned anonymously. How are players evaluated? Players younger than nine-years-old are evaluated by their current coach, who will consider various soccer skills as well as attitude and teamwork. Older players must attend an evaluation day in late spring, where BYSA will have the opportunity to see all the players in the program. The results of this evaluation day are combined with an evaluation from the player's current coach. The evaluation for all age groups may also include a game-day rating by other coaches or members of the BYSA Board. What if my child does not attend the evaluation day? Except for illness, injury, and religious grounds, any player not attending evaluation day cannot be placed on the top team of their age group. The evaluation by the current coach will be used to place the player in the rankings. What if my child is injured or ill or otherwise cannot attend the evaluation day? You are required to sign-in at the appropriate place and time. If your child is injured or ill, bring him or her if possible to sign in with all the other players. Notify the coordinator of the illness or injury. Should you and/or your child not be able to be present on religious grounds, advance notice is required. If it is raining on the day of the evaluation, (or on game day) what should I do? Call the soccer line (781) 229-5733 or check the web-site for information. Unless informed otherwise, go to the field at the appropriate time. Rain alone does no cancel soccer. Travel teams MUST appear or forfeit when fields are open. How are the teams selected? The results of the evaluation process (coach evaluation plus evaluation day) are used to create a ranked list of all the players in an age group. This list is collated with the players who have registered on-time for the coming season. The coach of the team to be formed meets with the Age Coordinator and members of the BYSA Board of Directors to select the te?m based on this list. The coach may make limited exceptions to selection strictly based on the list and will typically do so to obtain specialty players such as goalkeepers. Teams are selected in order from highest division to lowest with each coach selecting from the remaining players as above. Team size and player selection are determined by the number of on-time registrations received, so all evaluated players may not be placed on a roster at this time. What if we are not happy with our child's team placement? First of all, the best interest of your child will be served if you keep things positive and keep things in perspective. Encourage your child to do his or her best in the situation. By all means let BYSA know if you think something is wrong, but be aware that we will not make changes, after the teams have been selected, until the following season (if we feel it to be necessary). There are other soccer programs your child can try out for if you feel BYSA does not suit your needs. |
